Report: fish report
While all of California shut down to salmon
fishing this year the Klamath river will be
open and in-river anglers are going to see
one of the biggest adult quota in the
past decade this fall. The quota for adult
fall run salmon this season is an
incredible 22,500 fish and with the ocean
shut down and the expected closures of the
Central Valley rivers the Klamath will be
the only salmon fishery available to sport
anglers this year other than the Smith. We
do expect above average fishing pressure as
anglers converge on the Klamath in August
and September but it's the Spring salmon run
that will happen next and is a fishery that
is under the radar of most.
Springers start to return in mid May
and their numbers build with peak fishing in
June. This is an anchor fishery where boats
anchor in the travel lanes on the edges or
seams of the river and back bounce spinners
to intercept salmon. These are tough
fighting an arguably the best tasting fish
with most running in the 12 to 30 pound
class. The best fishing tends to be in
the early morning hours and will last through
about noon. Springers tend to move through
very quickly and a couple of hours of dead
action can often be followed by 15 or 20
minutes of fast and furious action where
boats in one stretch get several take downs
apiece. Breakfast is also included on these
Springer trips yes breakfast. There's
nothing like hot bacon & egg's early in the
morning out on the water.
In mid July the summer steelhead run gets
under way. Summer steelies come in two runs.
The larger fish start to show in mid July
with most running 5 to 8 and often to 12
pounds. The half pounder run follows in mid
August and peaks on the lower river in early
September. It's the early steelie run that
is often overlooked by anglers due to the
lack of salmon in the lower river at that
time. The past few years have been very
productive for July steelie anglers with
catches running from 5 to over 20 fish per
boat. On light tackle these fish are a
challenge and love to gobble roe & a fish
pill. Here is a pic Of my 5 year old Kayley
& my good friend Zach's son Jake with there
first Klamath river summer steelies.

Another Steelhead season has come & gone
with it's high's & lows. Plagued early in
the season with high water made for a tough
start. When the Smith & Chetco rivers
finally did come into shape great catching
day's were few & far between. Fortunately
weather was easy on the the rivers down
south & we great fishing for a longer period
of time than a typical season. I had a great
time with every body that fished with me &
would also like to thank you & look
forward to seeing you on the water another
time. Here are A few pic's of the season.

Report: Eel River
The south fork
was fair to us. We managed to hook 7 & land
six the first day. The second day was a
little tougher we hooked only 3 & landing 2.
The river clearing & 4 to five other boats
on the same run certainly didn't help.
Saturday I decided it would be a good idea
to go fish a lot lower on the river than the
armada. The Water we went & fished was just
coming into shape & a little high .We ended
up hooking 7 & landing 6. I have been still
catching fresh ones to its been about 50 50
on my boat. Every day the River conditions
will just get better & better. I still have
some openings for the remainder of the the
season if any body is interested.

Report: Chetco
The river was in
great shape Tue. morning just a little high.
We put the boat in at o dark thirty &
started fishing all by our selves. We ended
up 4 out of 5 with a couple dandies. Rob
landed a mint bright 14 to 15 pound buck.
Katie Robs 12 year old daughter landed a
fish that was 17 to 18 pounds. We released
the big fish & continued fishing.
Wed. the river
had dropped and was in perfect shape. Katie
started the day on her third cast of the
morning. We ended up hooking 9 fish &
landing 7 great day. We are going to get
some weather for the next couple days
predictions for 70 mph winds & a lot of
rain. Hopefully we don't get blown out for
to long.
I still have
some day's open in Jan.,21& 22. I also have
some days available later in the season as
well. If any one would like to fish these
