What’s
on Tap?
Winter
Steelhead - Beginning now and
running through March; I will be
running drift boat trips, side
drifting eggs and a fish pill.
Winter steelhead trips always book
heavily, so if you plan on fishing
this winter Don’t wait too long to
reserve your desired dates. I know
we had somewhat of a rough season
last season. On the other hand we
did see a ton of 2 year old fish.
This is a really good sign of good
fishing to come this season. The
smith river has a bunch of early
steelhead in right now. It’s
beginning to look like we’re going
to have good fishing in December. I
know for a fact a 19 pounder was
caught at the gage hole on November
20th and several 6-12
pounders were caught spread out
through the river during the month
of November.
I
plan to offer trips in Humboldt Bay
this season fishing for California
Halibut, Mud Marlin, Leopard sharks
and maybe even a sturgeon or two.
Trips start when the water warms up
and the bait shows up. Typically
June – August are prime months for
California. Halibut limits are 3 per
person.
Thank
you to every one for you continuing
support, It’s been a fun road to
travel and having good company on
the water makes a fun job…Just Plain
Easy.
I’m
looking forward to another great
season.
Happy
Holidays,

Klamath Spring Salmon
We had
a fair Springer season. Those of you
that know me well know that I have
not perused this fishery a whole
lot. I’m going to change my routine
and offer Springer Trips starting
mid May. Springers are not only the
best eating Salmon on the planet;
they are also the hardest fighting
fish as well.
Klamath Fall Salmon
Fall
Salmon began entering the system in
the beginning of August. We caught
several nice fish trolling the
estuary. The salmon did not start
migrating up river until the end of
August, if they could make it past
the gill nets. Once the gill
netting season was filled, the River
flooded with fish. The following day
we hooked 30 and landed 23, What a
Day! It was a great season for 3
year old fish with some dandy 4 year
olds as well.
Smith
River Fall Salmon
The
beast season I have ever seen bar
none. Typically we will get a few
good days here and there. The
fishing was pretty much red hot for
the hole month of November. Our
average day seemed to consist of
6-12 fish a day. Some days were
nothing but chromer’s and other days
a mixed bag of darkies and bright
ones. The Smith has always been
known for its Monster Kings, and
this year was no exception. We
landed several fish in the 30-40lb
class with one fish in the mid 50 lb
class.
